Keep one battery radio
Cell networks fail in the exact conditions you most need them. A NOAA weather radio does not.
Sign up a neighbor
The residents most at risk in an emergency are the least likely to have signed up for alerts. Sign up with someone, not just for yourself.
Check it twice a year
Numbers change. When you change your smoke-detector batteries, check that your alert contacts are still right.
